Victor Caixeta left Het Nationale Ballet (the Dutch National Ballet) as of August 2024, he announced on his Instagram on 16th September.
The 25 year-old Brazilian dancer said that he decided to take a full control of his career, and that he would spend one season as a international guest principal dancer without making any long term commitments to a specific ballet company. It was not clear where his home base would be.
Victor joined the Dutch National Ballet in March 2022 as Soloist after he left the Mariinsky Ballet following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in the month before. Princilal Olga Smirnova also joined the company at the same timing after leaving the Bolisoi Ballet. Her grandfather is Ukrainian.
Victor was promoted to Principal in April 2023.
The image above was taken by me with my iPhone at the curtain call of Giselle in November 2023, when Victor performed Albrecht. He landed soundlessly and reminded me of Vladimir Malakhov.
Personal note: I noticed Victor disappeared from the Dutch National Ballet’s dancers page a few days ago, which made me wonder what his move would be. Now I am happy to learn Victor did NOT stop dancing, rather, he decided to take this career path to for a further development as an artist. Given he is still in his twenties, it is almost scary to think how far he goes. I look forward to seeing Super Victor !
