The Tokyo Ballet is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.
The Tokyo Ballet, one of Japan's largest ballet companies, was established on 30th August 1964. It performed the Diamond Celebration gala on 31st August and 1st September in Tokyo. Unfortunately, some earlier performances in Western Japan were cancelled by bad weather caused by a powerful typhoon.
In October, the company will revive The Kabuki for the first time in six years. The ballet was created by Maurice Bejart for the company based on the historical and popular Kabuki piece, Kanadehon Chushingura 『仮名手本忠臣蔵』, and was first performed in 1986.

The company has already been performing the anniversary programmes this year. It also reshaped the senior management.
