Union members of the San Francisco Ballet reached a tentative agreement with the management ahead of the premiere of The Nutcracker.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported on 5th December 2024, “Ballet management, currently under the leadership of Executive Director Branislav Henselmann and Artistic Director Tamara Rojo, reached a tentative two-year agreement with its union members on Thursday, Dec. 5. The news was announced by the American Guild of Musical Artists, who represent the Ballet’s 84 dancers and three stage managers, just one day before the company’s 20th anniversary performance.
“The contract is now awaiting approval by the union’s Board of Governors, which plan to convene on Dec. 16.”
The American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA) announced the tentative agreement on its website with a positive tone.
The AGMA union said, “While the agreement is still pending, the Artists of SFB are excited to kick off their Nutcracker season, which draws close to 100,000 attendees each year, beginning December 6.”
The premiere of The Nutcracker went on on 6th December as scheduled. The programme runs until 29th December.
In late November, AGMA said that the San Francisco Ballet’s artists are in collective negotiations with the company management ahead of their contract expiry on 6th December, the same day of the opening of The Nutcracker, and that the shows might be affected if an agreement was not reached.
In contrast, Opéra national de Paris cancelled the first two shows of Paquita on 5th and 6th of December due to the industry action by dancers.
