The London City Ballet is making a come-back to its old home Sadler's Wells theatre in September after 30 years of hiatus with a programme titled Resurgence.
The original London City Ballet was shut down in 1996 and revived last year under the artistic direction of Christopher Marney. The revived company has already been touring internationally. The audience in London finally have an opportunity to see them on stage at Sadler's Wells, where the original company was resident.
Resurgence features five works, symbolising old-and-almost-forgotten and a fresh start. The programme includes the revival of Kenneth MacMillan's 1972 creation Ballade, which has not been performed in Europe for over 50 years, and Marney's own 2022 creation Eve.
The London City Ballet comprises sixteen dancers, including everyone's favourite Alina Cojocaru as Guest Artist and Cira Robinson, an ex-Ballet Black dancer whose comeback from the retirement may delights ballet fans in the town.
The original London City Ballet was founded in 1978. Diana, Princess of Wales was patron from 1983 to 1996.
