Boris Charmatz, the Artistic Director of Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch GmbH, will leave the theatre, the City of Wuppertal announced on 28th February 2025.
The press release posted on the theatre's website said, "The Artistic Director of Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, Boris Charmatz, and the board of the GmbH together with the City of Wuppertal have mutually agreed to terminate their contractual relationship at the end of the current season."
"The parties have agreed that the reasons for this termination shall remain confidential."
Charmatz has been the German theatre's artistic director since August 2022.
From August 2025, Deputy Director Dr. Daniel Siekhaus will be responsible for the operation of the dance company until the next artistic director is appointed.
The press release said that the next Artistic Director of Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch would also be the founding Artistic Director of the planned Pina Bausch Centre, and that the next artistic director would be appointed once Wuppertal City Council has made the final decision on the construction of the centre.
"Under the present timetable, this decision will be made by the year 2026 at the latest," the press release said.
