Nikisha Fogo Day: Mayor honoured the first female black principal with SFB

San Francisco Mayor London Breed declared October 8, 2024, as Nikisha Fogo Day to honour Nikisha Fogo, who became the first female black principal of the San Francisco Ballet.

Nikisha said in her Instagram post, “I’m deeply honored to have today officially declared as Nikisha Fogo Day in San Francisco by Mayor London Breed. 💖

“This recognition means a lot to me, as its (sic) for breaking down barriers for young artists who, like me, may not have always seen themselves represented in ballet or imagined performing with one of the world’s great companies.

“I couldn’t be more grateful to be here in San Francisco, surrounded by such a supportive community

“Thank you 💖🩰🙏🏾”

Big congratulations Nikisha!

Nikisha was born in Stockholm, Sweden. She joined the San Francisco Ballet in California, the U.S., as Principal in 2020 from the Vienna State Ballet soon after Manuel Legris left the Austrian company as the artistic director and move to Teatro alla Scala in Italy.
