Lisa Horten-Skilbrei, a young Norwegian dancer fighting with cancer, says she wants to carry on despite doctors’ decision to stop treatment altogether. Lisa sent a mesage in her Instagram story. Now the original disappeared after 24 hours, I am sharing the message text in this news post with dateline 4 October, 2024.
The message reads (some dropped punctuation is left as it is);
“Hi 🩵
Right now my family and I are devastated
I got a lung infection last week and possibly stomach infection
Due to this the doctors have decided to stop all cancer treatments. — Not just ‘pause’ but actually stop them and never continue.
I’m currently on antibiotics to help the infections, but after that treatment they have now (sic) further plan for me.
It feels horrible to have no doctors believing with (sic) you. I still have strength and I won’t give up, but it’s so so tough right now. Can’t stop crying…. 💔 if anyone have some tips of where to seek new help, new doctors, new treatments, we’d endlessly appreciate it🩵
And ofc prayers and energy 🩵
Glad we still have love.”
Lisa has been a dancer of the Ballet Basel in Switzerland since 2017. In March 2024, the 27-year old was diagnosed with stage 4 CUP cancer, according to her Gofundme page. CUP stands for cancer of unknown primary. It means that "cancer spread has been found in your body (secondary cancer), but your doctors can't find where the cancer started (the primary cancer)," according to Cancer Research UK.
