The Bayerische Staatsballett (Bavarian State Ballet) has announced the 2025-2026 season programme.
The German company will kick off the new season with Peter Wright’s Giselle in Barcelona, Spain, due to the closure of the Munich National Theater.
Bayerische Staatsballett will return to their homeground theatre in November with John Neumeier’s The Nutcracker. The company will revive Neumeier's Illusions - Like Swan Lake later in the season. I have never seen this 1976 work. I hope this will be digital-broadcasted.
The Waves and Circles triple bill features works by the established masters Maurice Béjart and William Forsythe, along with a world premiere by the young Canadian choreographer, Emma Portner.
In another triple bill titled Common Ground, the company performs works of Alexander Ekman and Johan Inger for the first time, along with Hans van Manen's. Interestingly, these three works world-premiered at the Nederlands Dans Theater.
Other ballets to be featured are John Cranko's Onegin, Neumeier's The Lady of Camellias and Angelin Preljocaj’s Le Parc. The company will showcase three pieces of Neumeier's works in one season.
