I hope you have enjoyed A Celebration of Ballet today, 6 November 2024.
As Dominic Antonucci, the BirmingRoyal Ballet’s Assiatant Director, puts it in the YouTube video, A Celebration of Ballet is an “homage” to the World Ballet Day (WBD), which did not happen this year.
In case you missed all of or part of A Celebration of Ballet, like myself, here are the links to the YouTube videos. The event is much much smaller-scale than WBD and comprises recorded content, but it curves out good facets of the art of ballet today.
Birmingham Royal Ballet Sugar Plum Fairy masterclass: here
Sofia Liñares as Sugar Plum Fairy, coached by Dominic Antonucci, Assistant Director, and Yvette Regueiro, a company répétiteur, with pianist Jeanette Wong
(Watch until the end)
Northern Ballet’s Sketches | Sky Above, Voices Within: here
Choreography by George Liang
Dancers Ruben Reuter and Kevin Poeung
(Emotional piece)
English National Ballet company class: here
ENB Répétiteur Renato Paroni de Castro with amazing pianist Matthew Gregory
(I had a pleasure to take Renato’s class at Danceworks in London a few times many moons ago. Matt still plays for classes everywhere in London!)
Royal Academy of Dance Silver Swans ballet class: here
(Never too late or old!)
And surprise participant São Paulo Dance Company: here
Madrugada by Antonio Gomes
Les Sylphides (Chopiniana), restaged by Ana Botafogo based on Mikhail Fokine’s 1909 original, accompanied by the São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra (Osesp)
(It was stupid of me not knowing of the existence of this company. I appreciate their effort to reach out for international audiences like me with their beautiful signature works.)
Enjoy!
Also, we have another year to finish watching all recorded content of WBD2023. Always look on the bright side of life♪
