Prima Materia Ballet is your ultimate destination for custom-made ballet leotards and skirts. My passion for dance and fashion drives me to provide high-quality, comfortable, and stylish apparel for every dancer.

Prima Materia started as a small Etsy shop in May 2019. At first, I thought it would last for a couple of months. However, it has grown from strength to strength and I decided to take it independent in July 2024.

 

In summer 2022, my home base moved to Rotterdam, the Netherlands, from London, the UK. However, one thing does not change. I design and hand make everything. I can control all aspects of the production, offering you flexibility to personalise the styles and the sizing of dance wear. In essence, you can customise anything and everything. It is customisation and personalisation that make Prima Materia stand out from the crowds.

 

Now, my leotards and skirts are worn by aspiring ballerinas, adult enthusiasts and dance teachers across the world, as well as professional dancers with the English National Ballet, Royal Ballet, Northern Ballet, Scottish Ballet, Dutch National Ballet, New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, San Francisco Ballet and Staatsballett Berlin to name a few. They are also worn by contemporary dancers, figure skaters, ice dancers and gymnasts.

P.S.  

Once I was an aspiring ballerina. But I realised my parents did not like the idea. I felt ignored by my ballet teacher. Now I realise that was clearly a body shaming. I was chubby. 

​

So I focused on education, did some other things to please parents and became a journalist with an internationally renowned news agency. But I carried on ballet anyway -- I still believe I could have been a professional dancer. And when the time was ripe, I decided to pursue my childhood dream, ballet. but in a different form.
